Secondary School | Skyspace Ta Khut — Learning to See

What does it mean to truly see?

For over five decades, James Turrell has been exploring that question—not through images or objects, but through light itself. His work does not represent the world; it reshapes how we perceive it.

On Tuesday, April 7, our secondary students are invited to experience Skyspace Ta Khut at Posada Ayana—the first independent Skyspace in South America.

At its core, the experience is disarmingly simple: a circular marble chamber, an opening to the sky, and a gradual choreography of light. And yet, as the sun sets and subtle color shifts unfold, something unexpected happens. The sky appears closer, deeper, almost constructed. Boundaries soften. Colors intensify. The familiar becomes strange again.

Turrell’s work asks for presence. It asks us to slow down, to sit with uncertainty, and to notice how perception itself is shaped—by context, by light, by attention.

This is not a visit to “look at art,” but to experience how meaning is formed in the act of seeing.

Community Spotlight: Lucila Brea on stage at MACA

Within our community, there is a quiet but remarkable network of artists whose work extends far beyond the classroom and into the broader cultural landscape. This week, we highlight Lucila Brea—mother in Lower Primary and a multidisciplinary artist—who returns to the stage with a new production at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Atchugarry (MACA).

Lucila is part of the cast of Embutidos Ibargoyen Varela, a contemporary Uruguayan theatre piece that navigates the space between humor and unease. Set in a rural town at the beginning of the 20th century, the play follows five women whose lives revolve around the making of embutidos, until an unexpected disruption begins to expose tensions, desires, and hidden layers within their world. The work unfolds as a theatrical banquet—at once intimate and unsettling—inviting reflection on memory, inheritance, and the patterns we carry forward.

Written and directed by Shumi Gauto and produced by Compañía Ordinaria, the production brings together a strong ensemble cast—Shumi Gauto, Catalina Salas, Lucila Brea, María Solari, Ximena Perazzo, and Pietro Scalone—supported by original music by Joaquín Bachrach, art and costume design by Maru Di Fonzo, lighting by Emilio Pistone, and makeup by María Solari.

This is one of many examples of the depth of creative practice that exists within our own community—artists who move fluidly between personal, professional, and cultural spaces, enriching each of them in the process.

Date: Sunday, March 29
Time: 18:30–19:45

Painting Workshop at MACA with Artist Eva Claessens

The Garzón School Arts Committee presents a special painting workshop at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Atchugarry (MACA), led by artist Eva Claessens and coordinated in collaboration with Pablo Atchugarry. Centered on observation of the human figure, the session offers students the opportunity to participate in a masterclass exploring large-scale painting practices and insights into professional artistic development. The program also includes a guided visit to the exhibition Tres caminos, un horizonte, featuring works by Eva Claessens, Pablo Atchugarry, and Julian Lennon.

Open to students from Robins, Falcons, Bosque, and Río, the workshop is designed as an immersive experience connecting young artists with contemporary practice in a museum setting. All materials are provided by the Arts Committee, reinforcing its commitment to expanding meaningful artistic opportunities for students. Families are also invited to join a shared picnic in the museum gardens following the session, encouraging community engagement around art and creative learning.
